Scottish grid is represented in this map and table, as we can see currently there are only two interconnections, which serve to supply imports when required and exports when there is a generation surplus. These are the Scottish Transmission network connections, and the other HVDC Moyle-North Ireland.

This year will be operational Western HDVC Link with north Wales, and by 2032 is expected to have three other operations (Estern HDVC Two, Ice Link and North connection) that tighten to connect with England, will also do with Iceland and Norway.

Nevertheless these connections won’t be enough to accommodate the maximum amounts of exports from renewable energy by 2032. That is why we need more interconnection in the next years.

If this case is not fulfilled, it will not make sense to implant more renewable generation, since we will be limited by the transmission grid.
